Dental Bridges

At 5 Corner Dental, we specialize in providing high-quality dental bridges to restore the smiles of our patients in Cloverdale, Surrey, BC, and the surrounding areas including Newton and Langley. Dr. Mehrzad Hakimi and our experienced dental team offer custom solutions to replace missing teeth, enhancing both the functionality and aesthetics of your smile.

What Are Dental Bridges?

Dental bridges are prosthetic devices anchored on existing teeth or implants to replace one or more missing teeth. A bridge is composed of two or more crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap — these are called abutment teeth — and a false tooth/teeth in between. These false teeth are known as pontics and can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these materials.

Benefits of Dental Bridges

  • Restored Smile: Bridges fill the gap left by missing teeth, improving the appearance of your smile.
  • Improved Oral Functions: They enable you to chew and speak more effectively than you could with missing teeth.
  • Maintained Facial Structure: Dental bridges help prevent facial sagging by supporting your jaw and cheekbones.
  • Prevention of Teeth Shifting: They stop remaining teeth from drifting out of position, which can lead to further dental complications.

Types of Dental Bridges Offered at 5 Corner Dental

  1. Traditional Bridges: Involve creating a crown for the tooth or implant on either side of the missing tooth, with a pontic in between.
  2. Cantilever Bridges: Used when there are adjacent teeth on only one side of the missing tooth or teeth.
  3. Maryland Bonded Bridges: Made of porcelain fused to metal or plastic teeth and gums supported by a metal or porcelain framework.
  4. Implant-Supported Bridges: Supported by dental implants rather than crowns or frameworks. This option is considered the most stable and durable.

The Process of Getting Dental Bridges

  1. Initial Consultation: Dr. Hakimi will assess your oral health and discuss the most suitable type of bridge based on your needs and the condition of your teeth and gums.
  2. Preparation of Abutment Teeth: The teeth adjacent to the missing tooth will be prepared by reshaping these teeth to properly accommodate the crowns that will support the bridge.
  3. Impressions: Once the abutment teeth are prepared, an impression will be made to provide an exact mold for the bridge.
  4. Temporary Bridge: A temporary bridge will be set up to protect the exposed teeth and gums while the custom bridge is being made.
  5. Fitting of Permanent Bridge: When your permanent bridge is ready, the temporary bridge is removed, and the new bridge is adjusted to ensure a proper fit and comfortable bite.
  6. Follow-Up: Additional visits may be needed to check the fit of the bridge and to adjust the bite if necessary.
